SUMMARY:Film Premiere: The Town Photographer
DESCRIPTION:Special film premiere event with Q&A with the cast and crew!\n\n\n\n‘The Town Photographer’ is a feature length documentary by Nova Scotia filmmaker Todd Langille\, spotlighting the life and work of longtime Bridgewater (NS) photographer Frank Elam Garber (1877-1964). Over his 50+ year career\, Garber documented all aspects of life in the town of Bridgewater during its formative years – the early to mid-20th century. \n\n\n\nLangille was born and raised in Bridgewater through the 1970s and 80s\, first coming to know Garber’s work in locating several generations of family portraits bearing his signature. When discovering Garber had lost his life’s work in photographic negatives in a 1952 studio fire\, Langille was hooked. He set out to gather a significant cross-section of Garber’s photographs that survived in the public\, with the end goal of revealing\, in documentary form\, the important hometown story the images were certain to contain. What began as a pet project\, 28 years ago\, has finally been completed with the help of funding from Bell Fibe TV1. ‘The Town Photographer’ is the story of a photographer\, a filmmaker and the town that connected them across time. \n\n\n\nOn Saturday October 3rd\, the DesBrisay Museum will be hosting a special local premiere of “The Town Photographer” documentary in conjunction with the opening of a month-long exhibit of Frank Garber’s photographs\, artifacts\, and props from the film.  The special premiere evening will include a Q&A session with the director\, cast and crew. Refreshments will be served. Seating is limited. Advanced tickets recommended. Tickets can be purchased by donation at the DesBrisay Museum\, or online on Connect2Rec. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm screening. 8 pm reception. \n\n\n\nWatch the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7bsTkF_5-Q

SUMMARY:Introduction to Forest Immersion
DESCRIPTION:Join Colin Gray a naturalist\, an environmental researcher since 2009\, and a certified Forest Immersion Guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT)\, as he opens the doors into the wonders of nature’s interbeing.Enjoy the health benefits attributed to forest immersion as you relax and rejuvenate. \n\n\n\nThis unique experience invites you to connect deeply with nature\, promoting physical\, mental\, emotional and social well-being. Put yourself in touch with the present-moment as you awaken your senses. Connect with the trees\, walk barefoot or lie on the forest floor and stare into the cathedral above. Allow us to guide you through mindful practices and sensory engagement in the natural world. \n\n\n\nCurrent research on forest immersion focuses on two components-phytoncides\, and negative ions. Phytoncides are naturally occurring chemical compounds to help plants and trees protect themselves\, in the process they may also help us in similar ways. Negative ions are tiny molecules produced in nature that may offer mood-enhancing benefits\, reduce blood pressure\, and help boost the immune system. If you are feeling as if life’s daily pressures and stresses are getting you down\, perhaps consider a forest immersion experience. \n\n\n\nAges: 16+When: Saturday\, October 17Time: 2:00 PM – 3:30 PMWhere: DesBrisay Museum & Woodland Gardens\, 130 Jubilee Rd\, Bridgewater \n\n\n\nPre Registration required
