October’s Curiosity Kit!

Celebrate Wikewiku’s (the Animal Fattening Moon)

Discover Mi’kmaw lunar calendar. This month’s kit explores Wikewiku’s (pronounced wee-kay-we-goo-s)—a name that translates to the “Animal Fattening Moon.”

In Mi’kmaw culture, each moon serves as a guide for survival connected directly to the land. During this specific time of the year, the moon tells a vital story of transition: it signals to the community that forest wildlife is in a race against time, intensely foraging to build up the necessary fat stores and thick winter coats required to survive the freezing Atlantic months ahead.

Stop by the DesBrisay Museum to grab your FREE kit, learn more about our local ecosystems, and celebrate this changing season by crafting your very own paper-mâché moon!

Pickup Times: Tuesday to Saturday | 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
